Dear Lori - the real Lactnetter now - you've said what others are saying,
many things, used judiciously are great (ie: c-secs, bots, buckets) and
used indiscriminately are probably bad. Margaret Mead said the same thing
about distancing ourselves from our babies in 1965 in "Family", a book she
wrote with Ken Heyman. Ridge Press, MacMillan Co, NY.
I'm currently reading "The Power of Mother Love" by Brenda Hunter, PhD,
1997, Waterbrook Press, Colorado springs CO.
She echoes the same theme, that we need to be "attached" to our babies.
(The book has a decided Christian flavor). Good read. I haven't finished
"Vital Touch" yet, but I will!
These books are all saying what I think we know in our heart of hearts,
babies need the initial secure bond with mom to turn out OK. Anything used
in excess (buckets, visitation, long sep for work, depression in mom and so
on) disturbs the bond.
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
