The dietician in the NICU just adopted a newborn. This mom has never been pregnant and really wants to try to induce lactation. I loaned her a L*****a breast pump and she bought a double pumping kit. She is pumping q2 hr for 15-20 minutes. She is taking Fenugreek 3 tabs 3 times a day. She wanted to try Fenugreek before she used Reglan. I sent her home with a SNS and she is going to try to put baby to breast. (She had just fed the baby a bottle when she came to the office). I copied all the information from The Breastfeeding Answer Book and I also loaned her LLL Breastfeeding the Adopted Baby.
My question to you is did I cover everything? This mom knows that she may not be able to supply all the milk the baby needs but she knows that there is more to breastfeeding than just milk transfer. She wants to do this really bad and I want to make sure I have done all I can to help.
TIA,
