I have a client with a yeast infection. She has been working to resolve
the problem for about a week. Both nipples were cracked at the base and
side--the "slice". One has healed almost fully, but the other one, which
was worse all along, is badly damaged. She stopped feeding on that side a
couple of days ago, and is pumping. Some blood has come from the crack
while she pumps. Yesterday it seemed a little better--no bleeding when she
pumped. But today when she pumped, it was "pouring blood" so she stopped
pumping. Her supply is low on that side because of pumping just enough to
relieve fullness.

My question is what can she do with such a damaged nipple when the breast
is still producing milk. She has tried hand expression and gets only drops
and it hurts the breast. She is using Dr. Jack's APNO and it helped the
"good" side quickly, but the "bad" side is healing so slowly, if at all.

Should she see her MD or a dermatologist? Would a secondary infection
cause the lack of healing and the bleeding? Could there be a topical cream
for that nipple, avoiding a systemic abx--for obvious reasons?

Have any of you seen a nipple slice pour blood?
