Hi everyone,
I've been looking for info about this but I haven't found anything. I don't
know all the details as my friend's mom told me. My friend fell asleep
while boiling the pump tubing and bottles. When she woke up there was smoke
in their apartment. The tubing had boiled down and caught on fire. There
was smoke damage done to the walls but no other damage. Anyway, the mom was
told to pump and dump because of toxins in the smoke. She is not sure how
long she had been exposed to the smoke, 3 hours had passed since she fell
asleep. Her baby is a premie in the hospital, 2.3 lbs and has a staph
aureus infection. My friend's mom is also not sure how long they wanted her
to dump and pump for. My question is about the pumping and dumping, was
this necessary and if so, for how long? I have heard toxins are released
from plastic when burned but how much smoke would she have to inhale to get
in her milk? Is the risk higher because she is giving the milk to a premie?
The mom did not have to have any oxygen or anything else.
Thank you,
Lisa Wyllie
