I recently posted a request for suggestions for a mom with sore and
fissured nipples. One private e-mail response described the nipple
anatomy that my client with sore nipples had: no actual openings on the
surface of the nipple, rather milk emptied into the pits/fissures.
Visually, the leaflets of nipple tissue would "open up" with nursing,
"like a flower". Have others had any experience with assisting a mom
with this unusual anatomy?
