There are a couple of IBCLC/Public Health Nurses here in Ottawa who are
recommending the Niplette, I will see if I can get them to send in their
observations on results. As an IBCLC in private practice since 1985, I
don't. I find that if you get a baby properly latched with a full mouthful
of breast tissue the nipple really doesn't matter. I tell my clients they
don't need a nipple to breastfeed, they just need a breast. Some of my
clients maintain that shells do help both pre- and post- partum and I
don't discourage their use even if the effect is only placebo. If the
mother thinks they help, they probably do. I don't recommend them during
pregnancy unless a mother asks. Post-partum, I prefer them to use
silicone backed shells with the larger opening. I see about approx. 20 -
30 new clients per month and This month is veerry busy so not much time to
go on-line! I do think LACTNET is wonderful I was in shock when I saw all
the messages I had received today! I had just given the joining info to
other IBCLC's at our last month's meeting a couple of weeks ago.
