Dear Jean
----------
<Good news is that a simple method of home heat treating milk has been
developed and is being put to the test by an obstetrician in northern
South Africa. Final results are expected towards the end of the year.>
PLEASE keep us informed. A group of LLL Zimbabwe Leaders and
nurses decided this year to set up a study (privately) to
a) initially test human milk left to stand, then
b) study HIV+ mothers who choose to heat treat milk and feed by bottle.
Haven't got very far yet, and there's no point re-inventing the wheel if
someone is already partly along with a similar study. We realised that
if people are bleating about more research needed, and obviously big
business isn't going to promote this, WE who are so active in volunteer
bf help would be ideal researchers. Or maybe not IDEAL, but certainly
enthusiastic. We think we have the ideas, we CERTAINLY have the
population of affected mothers and babies, we see the need, we may
have access to a lab, we can work towards finding funding, but we need
all the help and guidance we can get, so as to get a useful study done.
