Dear Everyone:
I have just read a book that has upset me and want to share it with 2200+
friends. It is called "Bitter Pills" by Stephen Fried. His wife had a nasty
CNS reaction to one dose of Floxin, a quinolone drug that spurred him to do an
investigation of how drugs are made, marketed, and regulated.
It is an incredible and fascinating story. Just one fact: illegal drugs kill
5,000-10,000 folks per year. Legal drugs kill 45,000-200,000 folks per year!
After reading this book, I have told my family that I am not to get any drug
newer than 5 years unless I am in a life-threatening situation. Did you know
that Phase IV of drug testing is when we all are prescribed the drug and the
agencies wait and see what adverse reactions are reported? Gives me chills.
Warmly, Nikki Lee
