regina, you need another book, and the doctor that gave this to this woman
needs to know he *cannot* prescribe a drug about which he knows so little.
c'mom, this one ain't so hard. i got a cheap little book from mosby "medical
drug reference," because i wanted to have something easy to carry around or
look at when i wasn't at the computer (there are several drug websites) or
when the local drug center was not open (its quicker to look in a book than
to call someone).
levora is just a combined estrogen/progestin monophasic birth control pill,
and it is not contraindicated during breastfeeding according to hale (look
under ortho-novum, same drug). so there is no excuse whatsoever for telling
this mother and baby to suffer such torments. back to the breast and don't
sacrifice breastfeeding on the altar of . . . well, you know.
