If a mother is not "allowed" to hold her baby after neural tube surgery, she
can still nurse the baby side-lying, right? Mom could also "hover", while on
hands and needs, over the baby who is prone. Baby nurses in both positions
without being held (been there, done that- the latter to try to unplug a
plugged duct) while baby is healing from surgery.
It bothers me more than I can say when I read that a mother is not
"allowed" to breastfeed her own baby! Of course, a hospital bed that fits
both mother and baby would help, but I have known many a mother crawl into
those metal cribs in the pediatric ward to curl up and nurse her sick child.
A sick baby or child needs *more* breastfeeding, not less, IMHO.
