The Clinical Advisor for Nurse Practitioners May 25, 1999, 2(5), p.40 has
comments from Dr. Rob and others on why it is OK to BF if mom has Hep B.
Now I hope Rob also plans to comment on article on page 35 re: When infants
don't regain birth weight.
They quote Dr. Lawrence (1994) that BF babies get 2 weeks, bot fed get 8
days. I sure wish someone would do a carefully controlled study on this.
What I saw doing home visits after 24 hour discharge, was slight loss at 48
hours or birth weight. day 4 was birth weight or gain. Not at birth
weight or gain was a big red flag to me. I can only pull #s from babies I
saw so that would skew my figures I think. Anyone else see this sort of
pattern? Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
