Sharon writes,

<< Have read about this disorder - can't even
begin to imagine how difficult and heartbreaking it would be to watch
your child go through this. My understanding is that they often don't
live very long and when they do, they end up being quite small. >>

My "case study" a zillion years ago when I was in Pediatrics was a 10 year old
with OI. It was really hard finding information on it, as there was very
little written about it. He was SO tiny -- with a big head. About the size
of a toddler -- was absolutely amazing to hear this almost adult type
conversation from this small body!

Any way, these babies needs to be held, cuddled & loved -- just much more
gently than usual. I'd encourage her to hold the baby normally, snuggled up
against her. He'd probably do better in a cradle hold than a football hold --
She can still pull him into the breast. She should probably handle him much
the same way most brand new mothers handle their infants -- they all treat 'em
like they have OI and will break immediately.
