Dear Friends,
I never made a formal introduction. I live in Israel, and have 3 kids, two
girls, 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 and one boy, 8 months. I was a teacher, and have
now eased into my new profession (and new to this country) of lactation
consultant. In any case, I have enjoyed LACNET for the past year, and I
really learn alot. Thank You.
Here is my question. I am working with a baby who is 2.600 Kilo, at one
month, only 100 grams over birth weight. Baby is very sleepy at breast,
and feedings can drag up to an hour. Mother is supplementing EBM with
syringe and finger, has been doing this for one and a half weeks, and is
definately begining to get tired. Feeds are taking over an hour, between
trying to get her to eat on the breast, and then supplementing. I observed
the feed which looked fine, good latch, swallows, etc. After 3 days of
nursing every 2 hours plus the syringe supplementing, baby still only
gained 60 grams. I am on a thin line here, because I feel the mother is
losing it. I am very appreciative of your advice.
Thanks,
Jessica Billowitz
