Just wanted to share the good news I got today. This is an internal memo
(although it is clear that this is public information) that was distributed
to all employees of Charles Schwab and Co. employees (stockbrokerage). I
think you will appreciate it.
Fran
To all Schwab Employees:
I am pleased to announce that a new work and family program called the "The
New Mother's Return-To-Work Nursing Program" is being introduced. Schwab's
program will provide appropriate facilities and adequate time during the
work day a enable a new mother who has returned to the workplace to express
milk for her baby. We have arranged for a nursing room in each of the
Service Centers... In addition, program gudelines have been developed
specifically for the Branch Offices to assist them with their accomodation
efforts. We have also developed information and guidelines for managers and
employees to raise workplace awareness and support for this important
segment of our workforce, and, during the year, sessions with lactation
experts will be made available to new parents.

This program was initiated after receiving emails from new mothers who,
because they did not have access to private offices, were concerned about
how to continue nursing their baby once they returned to work. After
benchmarking other local companies, we determined that this type of program
provides families, companies and communities with a myriad of short and
long-term benefits at a nominal cost. For example:
* Increase the number of new mothers who return to the workplace
* Reduce employee absenteeism
* Reduce associated health care costs as well as medical benefits claims and
administrative costs
* Contribute to a healthier community
