To answer Dr. Gail Hertz' question about "breastfeeding crimes":
Here are some, frequently precipitated by physicians, off the top of my head:
1. Saying that bottlefeeding is "just as good" and not encouraging/supporting
breastfeeding.
2. Ordering unnecessary bottle supplements.
3. Separation of mother and infant.
4. Removing a baby from the breast inappropriately due to maternal
medication.
5. Not utilizing LC services appropriately/frequently enough; feeling
threatened by the LC's advice.
6. Stopping breastfeeding due to elevated bilirubin.
7. Discouraging normal duration of lactation (i.e., "your toddler shouldn't
be nursing anymore").
