Marie Davis - Thank you for your comments!

My friend has been on Vicoden for years now, as this has been the only med
to help her with her pain. She has taken it through 2 pregnancies and BF 2
babies whilst on it and those 2 babies never had tremors. Her Dr does not
seem (to me) to be really helpful in finding some other treatments for her
(physical therapy, whatever) to help her body deal with this arthritis that
she has. But, he is very OK with her taking it while preg and BF. In fact,
he called her OB and told the OB that it was perfectly fine for her to
continue to take the med and that he was giving her another prescription -
the OB had refused to allow any more than 1 Vicoden per day and my friend
was in absolute agony, couldn't function at all, and she has 3 older
children to care for.

The NICU nurses knew she was taking the Vicoden and they were the ones
giving her the hassles. The babies are small, they were 2 wks early, and I
have seen many other babies with the same type of tremors her babies had and
they had not had drugs in utero from mom. I think it was just another way
to hassle a mom who was "hassling" them about how to care for her infant.
BTW, I just got over bronchitis, I went to the NICU, and asked to wear a
face mask because my lungs were "itchy" and I was afraid I would start
coughing - not that I am contagious cause if I was, I would never have gone
near the babies - there was another NICU nurse in there coughing like crazy
all over the place - where was her mask? Why was she in there with those
babies? And, one of the NICU nurses told my friend that the eye infection
her baby got was "normal newborn eye "stuff"", nothing to worry about.
Baloney. The garbage info just makes us so angry. She dribbled some EBM
into his eyes (without the nurses knowing - they'd have freaked) and they
are clearing up nicely. At least she is home now - YEAH! - so she doesn't
have to worry about that stuff any more.

I know not all NICU nurses are like this, so if anyone feels like I am
bashing, I apologise. There was one nurse there who was really good! She
was a godsend...Very helpful. Some day, all HCPs will possess the basics we
would like them to and we won't have these types of problems...OK, I can
dream, right???
