Rachel Brusseau did a great study on what happens to bacterial levels in EBM
that has been stored in the fridge, then warmed, then the baby sucks some
out of the bottle and then the used EBM is re-refrigerated for 48 hours.
She studied the milk of 10 mothers and found that bacterial levels increased
only slightly, although one mother had quite high levels to start with, and
none of the babies became sick after finishing the re-stored EBM.
Rachel posted about this on Lactnet - when she was planning to do the study,
and after she had completed it. I think it was June or thereabouts in l998.
Perhaps a search of the Archives ...?
