A few years ago we had a lovely mother with Sjogren's, as well as insulin dependent diabetis mellistus, give birth to a 36 weeker by emergency cesarean. After some good hard work on her part in the early days of breastfeeding, the baby went on to thrive and grow at her mom's breast for months. The mother was especially delighted to report that the entire time she was exclusively breastfeeding, her insulin needs were greatly decreased, and her Sjogren's symptoms (dry eyes, mouth, joint pain, etc.) were almost nonexistent.
