A woman who works for me took Vitex Agnus Castus, recommended by a
specialist she went to see about bad skin.. the bottle says for PMT
symptoms like breast tenderness and cramps, and maybe fluid retention,
teenage acne (she was 30yrs old and her skin certainly improved
significantly,whether coincidentally or not..)...
and .. I looked it up.. and here are some direct quotes.. from Herbal
Remedies, harmful and beneficial effects.. Talalaj & Czechowicz.
"It's also called Chaste Tree or Monk's Pepper..
Pharmacological action: anaphrodisiac in males, choleretic.
Medicinal uses.. claimed to have an inhibiting effect on male sexual
desire, hence the common name of the tree.. used to treat menstrual
disorders and menopausal conditions, esp. depression. Used in homeopathic
medicine in the treatment of liver and spleen diseases and female
ailments..
Toxicity. No toxic effects known.. since it contains anti-hormone active
substances caution should be exercised when using the plant with certain
age groups or conditions.
Risks.. action in pregnancy uncertain, so best avoided."
