As a mother who has had 3 children suffer from pertussis at varying ages from
2 - 7 years (no they were not vaccinated!) I know that they would have
received a lot more value from breast milk than any antibiotic. If they vomit
it,s easily digested, it's comforting when they are scared and it's full of
the nutrition and antibodies etc they need.
As a pharmacist I thought the only value in giving erythromycin was to stop it
developing if they had been in contact. There are now so many contra-
indications to Septrin it's hardly ever used in UK and the sulphonamide part
is just as likely to upset the gut.
As Jack says feeding at night but dumping in the day is a load of tosh!!
It is another example of valuing the drug above breastmilk!
