Sarah,

I usually tell these moms that 6 months in THEIR lives isn't much time, but it
is double their baby's life span. This changes their perspective (usually)
and they will go ahead and nurse for the rest of the first year (or til 18
months depending on when we talk). They usually tell me that they are glad
that they nursed that extra time, whether they were able to conceive again or
not.

>>Over the last year or so I have several women tell me that they were
going to wean by a year because they wanted to become pregnant again.
These are all older (38-40) first time mothers. They delay solids until
6 months but then want to wean fairly quickly because of ticking
biological clocks. I do know women of this age who conceived quickly and
those for whom weaning did not help and never were able to have another
baby. <<
