I just attended a wonderful seminar on herbs presented by MED 2000. Dr. Donna
Israel, Ph. D, RD, LD was the speaker. Even though her purse was stolen that
morning at the Hartsfield Internat'l Airport, she presented a wonderful
lecture on herbs.
The info I got on Milk Thistle (I also wondered if it was the same as Blessed
thistle) are as follows:
Modern Uses: toxic liver damage, support tx in chronic inflammatory liver
disease and hepatic cirrhosis
Actions: hepatoprotective, antihepatotoxic, antioxidant
It increases BMR and HR.
AHPA Botanical Safety Rating: Class 1 (herbs that can be safely consumed when
used appropriately)
Apparently not a galactagogue. Hope this helps.
