The story I heard orig was that this young mother's m-i-l told her to BF
boy, bot feed girl. I believe it is the custom for the young wife to really
pay attention to her m-i-l in this country. I don't think the HCP had
anything to do with it. I find mom's mom or m-i-l has a lot of influence
in many cultures and what they say goes period. The perception of not
having enough milk is found world wide and is universal as a reason for
supp or not BF. From reading some of the histories about BF it is an
ancient belief too. Why? I don't think we have that figured out yet. We
know when a baby is obvivously doing well and we've all heard the mom say"I
don't have enough milk." Reasons - probably complex, multiple and
interrelated, definely cultural! Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
