Alcohol Versus Natural Drying for Newborn Cord Care
Dore, Buchan, Coulas, Hamber, Stewart, Cowan, Jamieson

Conclusion-evidence does not support continued use of alcohol for newborn
cord care
also health care providers should explain the normal process of cord
separation, including appearance and possible odor, and health care
providers should continue to develop evidence to support or eliminate
historic practices.

In this study, no newborn in alcohol treated cords or no treatment cords
developed a cord infection. Cord came off faster if not "preserved" by
alcohol.

!,811 babies and mothers in completed study.

Interesting article. Check it out.
