We've been helping a mom on the WIC program who weaned at 1 1/2 months
because her caregiver thought it would help with his reflux. Now at 4 mos.
mom is very frustrated because baby cannot tolerate a multitude of formulas
and baby has not gained well at all. She decided to try to relactate. She
got rid of her bottles and is solely using the SNS with a new formula. The
first day he wasn't happy and went to breast 5 times and took 25 oz (he
weighs 15 lbs). A few days later he was happier and taking 32 oz. Does
this sound normal? She started taking Reglan and fenugreek. Now after 6
days baby's stools look like breastmilk stools. Is this to be expected?
We have not worked with a mom relactating like this and need the benefit of
your collective wisdom. One last wrinkle---1 week into this whole program
mom finds out she is 5 weeks pregnant. So doc stopped the Reglan. She was
beginning to notice some breastmilk. What is your thinking?? Can this
nursing relationship be saved?
