Dear lactNetters,
My name is Leila Marcial, I am a lurker who has come out of lurkdome
to comment on 2 things.
1. I had a mammogram when my now 10yr old, was then 8 months, due to
a family hx of breast cancer. My
OB/Gyn (from Italy) knew that I was still brestfeeding, but never told
me to stop for the mammo. I had it done, it came back w/a reading
that said "needs further evaluation." I didn't tell the x-ray tech
that I was brestfeeding, I was never asked. I was sent to a surgeon
(from Costa Rica), who took one look at the mammogram & asked me "Are
you brestfeeding?" When I answered postively he told me that there
was "nothing wrong w/your mammogram" and to continue brestfeeding.
NEVER a mention of stopping for the mammo.
2. I also had a root canal when hew as 10 months old. I told the
Dentist, "I'm still breastfeeding." he shrugged his shoulders & said
"So?". I then received
four (4) injections of novocaine, & was put to sleep
'cause they weren't enough. He never told me that I couldn't
breastfeed my baby afterwards.....
Was I just lucky??? Or did I have breastfeeding friendly/smart health
care providers?????
The pediatrician never commented when at his 4 year checkup I informed
him that Christopher was STILL nursing...... lucky again.....only NOW
he's 10 years old & is "showing his preadolescent spirit"
Sincerely,
Leila Marcial, RN/CCE
My Eagle Scout was breastfed "naturally". The
same goes for my "future" Eagle Scout;)
