<< Lisa; we use the LATCH scoring in this hospital for the nurses to assess
the breastfeeding dyad(at least they are supposed to. I think it is
described in one of the JOurnals but I can't remeber which one. Does anyone
else remember? I would also be interested though in what others use as a
self assessment tool for latch >>
It's in a JOGNN, vol 23, (1994 -- I think January). We use "Breastfeeding
Descriptors" which is a take-off on the Breastfed Good, Fair, Poor -- which is
in use virtually universally. However, this has specific definitions for each
one, and the mothers learn how to use it so they can self evaluate a feed too.
Doesn't use numbers, but uses what most nurses are already familiar with.
Happy to share with anyone who wants it.
Jan Barger -- just home from Ann Arbor where I had the absolutely BEST oyster
stew in my entire life!!!!! And a great conference at St. Joseph Medical
Center.
