I have used the following reference to help me with low literacy
clients. It is full of great ideas for teaching.
Doak, C. et al. (1996). Teaching patients with low literacy skills, 2nd
edition, Phuiladelphia:Lippincott.
Also,...usually, you consider them to be 6th graders and not 8th
graders...
