Jan,
Since the reaction occurred after the use of Novocain during a dental
procedure (that's what I interpreted you said), could this have been an
allergic reaction?  She'd breastfeed for 3 months without this happening
before.  My husband received a "caine" drug at the dentist once, had chest
pressure which are sure to bring on an anxiety attack.  He wasn't told to stop
breastfeeding though.  Guess it wasn't a variable.  Could this be the case?
From an inservice at our hospital we learned that postpartum depression can
occur up to 1 year after birth.
My bet is on an allergic reaction.  IMHO
