Hi, I'm new to the list, I don't know if I should do an intro. or not. So I
will. I'm the mother of 2 kids 31/2 and 2. Both are enthusiastic nursers. I am
also a chiropractor (on sabbatical ) and work as a volunteer for a 40 year old
mother to mother international breastfeeding organization. I have been
instructed not to id myself using the organization's name so I won't.
About the Lupron. I received a call about 7 months ago from the mother of a 6
week old nursing baby. The mom went in for a shot of Depo Provera and received
Lupron Depo by MISTAKE! After lots of research (Lactnet Archives included) and
phone calls to the drug manufacturer (and lawyers) the mother decided to pump
and dump for 2 months! The various experts were concerned about the effect of
the drug on the baby's endocrine system. She ended up with no milk at about 6
weeks. At that point, she put her baby to her breast and reestablished her
milk supply within days. Because this was a one time dose and not a course of
treatment, the drug's concentration had decreased and her GP felt it would be
ok to resume nursing. The situation is mildly different than the one posted
but I thought it might help.
