Is it truly failure to thrive, dropping like a stone off the growth chart?
or it is a small person growing at own pace consistently on one of the
lower percentiles? Compare the baby to himself, not every other baby. Is
it failure to eat "real" food that bothers the HCPs? Baby knows best! I
find these kids are usually allergic and have the good sense not to eat
unitl they are ready. In cases like this I'm truly glad if mom is BFing
and baby is getting the best, until he decides to eat the rest! Also how
is he developmentally? Doing most of the normal things you would expect a
17 mo old to do? Is he nibbling on things in the home, without actually
sitting down and "eating a meal? There are so many issues here. I
absolutely disagree with forcibly weaning this child. What if he CAN'T eat
anything else? Hyperal? Oh yeah, that's a great solution. Sincerely, Pat
in SNJ
