The topic of IV fluid shift from the laboring mother to the baby can cloud the
initial assessment of unexplained excessive weight loss in a newborn when he
diureses (dumps all of this). In an artcile I wrote for Birth in 1989, I was
able to find at least one study that discussed this situation:

I think this was a glucose IV, not Ringers.
