To explain the connection between the vagal nerve and colic: The vagal nerve
passes through the jugular foramen which sits between the occipital condyles
and the petrous portion of the temporal bones on either side. It is very easy
to compress one or more of these bones during the interventive kind of births
we do here in the US. The vagal nerve cannot do its optimal work and
subsequent comprises in function may manifest in colic-like signs and
symptoms. The treatment is to remove any pressure from the vagal nerve via
chiropractic or DO manipulation or with therapies like CranioSacral Therapy.
The vagal can then return to full duties enervating the respiratory, cardiac
and gastrointestinal systems. The vagal nerve is also responsible for
pharyngeal action which, when not working optimally, can manifest as
swallowing problems. Babies will usually calm down and even symptoms that
looked like food sensitivity can disappear.
Hope this explanation helps to make the connection.
