Gripe water is available in Canada, in both alcohol and non alcohol
containing forms. I always felt that if we are going to give the baby
alcohol, we might as well give it to the mother first. More bang for your
buck. I have mentioned it before, but as one of my teachers said. With a
colicky, nursing infant, the mother should drink until the baby is calm or
she doesn't care that he's crying.
Phenergan is an antihistamine/tranquilizer. I would not think this a better
drug to give a baby than alcohol. (But then, I don't consider alcohol a bad
drug. Like test weighing, it can be abused, and we don't really *need*
alcohol, just as we don't really *need* test weighings, but it can be nice).
