Thanks to all who contacted me to tell me what Mums are in USeez.
Yes, Chrysanths are staple autumnal flower here in UK in gardens and also
grown all year round in commercial greenhouses as a staple filler for bunch of
flowers and indoor pot plants It has also always been well used as a funeral
flower. My v superstitious MiL, a daughter of gaelic speaking Highlanders
was horrified when as a new young DiL (many, many moons ago, I was a child
bride you see!) I bought Chrysanths into the house, she considered them the
bringer of bad tidings - just as she would not let me wear in her sight a
beautiful milky (there, just to bring it nearer our fave topic) opal
surrounded by white sapphires that had been given to me for my 21st birthday
by my Godmother in Brisbane. (I'm half Aussie - mother's family came from
Scotland looking for land for sheep and cattle in 1830)
