Hi all,
Just thought I'd let you know what's happening with my "reflux" mom. First of
all, you were ALL right! Unbelievable!
Your suggestions included:
1. Not really reflux, just laundry problem; confirmed by ped. at next visit,
said "mild" if it was reflux at all
2. Possible food sensitivity--esp. dairy; mom was BIG cheese eater, cut back a
week ago, baby much less irritable by 5 days. At christening over the
weekend, got 2-3 bottles of EBM (pumped BEFORE cutting out dairy!) and started
spitting up again!
3. Possible yeast; mom DID get triple abx after C/S, had perineal rash AND hx
of yeast infections, baby had diaper rash for about a week after birth.
Denies rash in either of them now, though. Dr. did not want to treat without
sx in EITHER of them.
4. High need baby; once mom accepted this, & was no longer afraid to use
carrier, baby has settled considerably. Dad wears baby in evenings to spell
mom. Baby does use pacifier to self-soothe between feedings, without any
interference w/bf.
5. Growth spurt; after "crazy" 2 weeks (age 6-8 weeks), baby now sleeps about
6+ hours at night, has 1 or two "awake but not crying" periods during day,
stooling once every day or so.
6. Oversupply/overactive letdown; Feeding off on breast/2-3 hours has slowed
supply, stools thicker, less explosive, baby "choking" less while on breast.
So. Was any one of these "right"? I believe they were ALL right, and mom &
baby are much happier now. She said to thank you all for your input!!
Smiles from St. Louis,
Carol
