I must add my .02 here...I've been working with the local AF bases here for
almost two years now, having pumps funded by Air Force Aid Society. Its been
my experience that these mothers had chosen to breastfeed prior to delivery;
90% are going back to work and need a pump; and many have continued to
breastfeed past their initial goal and site the pump as making it possible
especially when employed. I have had, though, several cases over the last two
years (out of 150+) who were talked into nursing by the "carrot" breastpump,
and later weaned very early.
Its also my understanding that the inital funding came through a gift to AFAS
that was specifically designated for breastpump rentals. Its only recently
that they have agreed to pay for a portion of the cost of the P*mp i* St*le.
