Well, I was disappointed that I wasn't in Chicago to view this and see what
they did on the news, and I didn't think to ask Bob to tape it. Drat. What
WAS fun was being with 3 other LCs (Judi Lauwers, Carole Peterson, Linda
Kutner) when we viewed it so we could all simultaneously scream ARGHHHHHHHHH!
REally was blindsided by the Baby Friendly stuff, which was, of course,
hopelessly wrong! There was so much wrong with the program it was agonizing.
The stuff about stopping bf for pain meds -- and then flippantly saying "oh
no, she can pump & dump...." And portraying the LC as saying that the mom
shouldn't supplement. (Yeah right....)
I could go on. We discussed it with the students in our course this morning
-- it actually provided a good segue into the beginning of the course, listing
all the problems they saw -- as well as listing the good stuff. A list of 15
negative things, but they found three good things. Including the fact that
the mom pumped an entire bottle of milk (although she was single pumping,
sitting on the toilet in the bathroom....ugh).
Sigh.
At least there has been some reasonable follow-up to this.
