Cutting a shield, snip by snip over days, FROM THE INSIDE OUT, has not been a
problem in my experience. Cutting it from the outside would, cause the edge to
be a little too sharp, but when done from the inside it seems so much
smoother. I explain its use to the parents and how to end its use as soon as
is feasible. My preference is to slip it away, but some babies resist and the
transition off it seems much smoother when it is slowly destroyed.
