I'm jumping into the fray here a bit late as I've been mulling this over
for a few days. I'm bothered by our responses to this editorial. I
believe we had a "teachable moment" and a teachable person(any woman who
has breastfed has a soul which can be reached by other BF moms). Because
of the sharp responses to her editorial,I'm afraid that she is now not
reachable, and to further compound the issue.........anyone she talks to
about the responses who was not in the BF camp, is now firmly against
this issue. She probably has a fairly wide circle of people she is in
contact with.
Perhaps next time we can respond with educating these people about their
inaccuracies, let them know how critical their information be correct(no
matter it is tongue in cheek), and woo them into the BF advocacy circle.
These news people reach many circles of people we may not reach, and I
believe it is important to educate them to win them over, not push them
into corners and burn down bridges.
Just a few thoughts to get off my chest.....now I can head off to
Houston for the HALCEA BF conference.
