I have been following with interest the posts on hypoglycemia. I am not medically trained, and had never heard of it until I was told my second son had a count of 27 and that he would have to be given glucose. He was quite a large baby, over 9 lb, and I gather there is some causal relationship there. I begged the ped. to let me try and just continue bf for a while to see if that would help. She reluctantly agreed. I fed him as much as possible over the next four hours, after which he was again tested and found to have a count of 40!! The ped. was obviously surprised. I would like to think that they would encourage mothers to try bf in subsequent cases of hypoglycemia after witnessing my experience, but I'm more of a realist than that! After all, this is Singapore where progressive = interventive! (My computer is telling me that "interventive" is not a word. It is, isn't it?!!)
