Pat Gima says,
<< That prescription pad is just too handy. >>
Ain't it the truth! My latest rant is the doc who gave mom a course of
antibiotics (dicloxicillin) for "mastitis." (Symptoms: lumpy breasts.
That's it. That's all. No fever, no redness, no specific tenderness, no flu-
like symptoms, no nothing. Just a couple of lumps). Told her that he HAD to
give her the antibiotics, otherwise she'd end up with disfiguring breast
surgery (presumably for an abcess). I told her I didn't want to even know who
the OB was....asked her if he had diagnosed an abcess -- she said no, and the
reason for the lumps, in her opinion was a constricting bra. After she
changed the bra, did some gentle massage, the lumps disappeared.
To top it off, her baby is extremely sensitive to antibiotics, and has all the
symptoms of lactose intolerance with extreme gassiness, fussiness, and genuine
pain when she's on them.
Jan -- in Wheaton -- who is frustrated, once again. But won't mention a
bookstore lest someone think I'm retiring.
