I am positive that I saw/read that forcing fluids can actually DECREASE
milk supply. Many women do not drink to thirst, rarely drink
water and if they are trying to limit caffeine and soft drinks
might not be getting enough fluid.
According to the Breastfeeding Answer Book (LLLI) it is not
beneficial for the mother or her milk supply to force fluids. One study
cited found that mothers did not produce any more milk when they drank 25
percent more fluids than when they drank to thirst.
