I ask her what she would like me to fix. She bursts into
tears and says that she just feels that this is going badly, the
baby's been asleep for 3 hours, and that she can't get over the
hurdle. We chatted for a while, I told her to take a nap and
that
I would see her tomorrow. What now?
The latch is good. The suck is good. The nipple is good.
There is
no pain. The baby isn't fussing. The gain is good. I don't
believe
she's depressed, and this is her third baby...all breastfed for
at least a year. I have no idea what I'm going to do for her.
What is the problem here? Ideas? Suggestions?
I'm finding this really frustrating.
JMHO, but it sounds like mom is in need of some support
networking. Is there a LLL that you can get her into contact
with that is nearby? What about play groups for the older kids
or something to that effect? (I know I would go nuts without
taking my son to a playgroup so that I can have contact with
other moms) Does she have any friends that are suportive of her
breastfeeding? I would not be surprised if, when you look at her
support systems, you would find that they are pretty scant
indeed.
Good Luck,
vickie
