For those who asked about red reflexes that I haven't replied to,
this refers to looking at the baby's eyes through an
ophthalmoscope to see a "red reflex" from the retinas. Similar to
the "red eye" one gets in a picture if the person looks at the
flash.
Absence of this reflex can be cause by cataracts or a retinal
tumor.
I did have one baby I found with this at 2 months. It turned out to
be a retinoblastoma, a rare tumor of the retina. It required removal
of the eye.
He had this done at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia PA were
they let babies breastfeed 2 hours before surgery.
