I just learned that the hospital where Kathleen Huggins works has been
awarded baby friendly status. I am not sure how many other hospitals have
recently been awarded this, but I want to personally thank her for all her
work in assisting in the process. KH is one POWERFUL woman and superbly
gifted LC. I know that all she has done at her hospital has contributed
greatly to this award for the hospital.
What a shame that she will not be allowed to run for office, etc. or vote
in future ILCA elections because she is not IBCLC. Does anyone else see
something wrong with dividing the strength of the profession by this false
dichotomy? Surely there must be some other way of encouraging IBCLC
certification wtihout punishing those who have chosen-for any number of
reasons-not to seek it. One way would be to have information from IBLCE in
every issue of the society-sponsored journal, something that has not
occurred for several issues.
Congrats, KH--to you and all the many people at your hospital who
contributed to this important recognition.
