Dear Lactnetters,
I have been working with a baby who was delivered by vacuum ext., mom with
epidural, Apgars good, full term, healthy baby. I'm not sure if there was any
vigorous oral suctioning. Baby has been hungry & has a strong suck, but will
not open her mouth. Mom is pumping & giving ebm or abm by syringe. Mom is very
patient & persistent with baby. They went home today, baby 2.5 days old. The
mom & I would like to know how long her baby will continue this. Is there
anything else you would recommend doing to help this baby get to breast? Mom
has done skin-to-skin & used her nipple & finger to elicit rooting reflex, but
baby still won't open mouth.
TIA,
