"I am going to be helping to start a new moms group atone of our city
hospitals. It will be targeting the lower income, minority moms. The LC
estimates the literacy level to be about 8th grade so I will not be
pushing hand-out types of things. Maybe simple games?? If there is
anyone who is involved with this type of group could you email me
off-list to help me brainstorm?"

I have used the following reference to help me with low literacy
clients. It is full of great ideas for teaching.

Doak, C. et al. (1996). Teaching patients with low literacy skills, 2nd
edition, Phuiladelphia:Lippincott.

Also,...usually, you consider them to be 6th graders and not 8th
graders...

Good luck.
