I have had Email discussions with the folks at the CDC in
reguard to rotashield (rotavirus vaccine) and if it is needed
in breastfed babies. As the original corispondant
couldnt adiquately answer the question, he sent it to the
Advisery Committe on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
I havent heard back yet.
Looking in the peds texts it is stated studies show
varing protectiveness of BF against RSV. As I posted some
time ago, one publication I got about the vaccine said it
had efficacy equal to breastfeeding against severe
disease.
I asked some ID specialist their thoughts on recommending
this vaccine for BF babies. Their reply was they will b/c very
few mom BF for a year.
I'll keep everyone posted.
