Dear Netters,
I had a good one today. I was asked to check on a 6 day old baby admitted to
the hospital for "breastmilk jaundice" (bili of 25) min. weight loss, but had
had a hematoma from birth.
Of course the HCP had held BM feedings. Anyways after inviewing mother and
contacting her public health nurse, I found out that mom had been
predominately ABM feeding, because she was embarassed (18 year old primip)
I suggested to the staff that since the ABM had been the primary source of
feedings perhaps we should hold the ABM for 24-48 hours and give breastmilk.
